Kreg Snit said in his blog that Apple is considering launching a 14-inch MacBook Air whose target region is Asia.
Kreg said American and European consumers prefer 15-inch laptop while Asian like 14-inch more. Global 14inch market share is between 20-25%, but in Asia, the market share is 35-40%. Since Apple has seen rapid growth in Asian market, Apple may introduce 14inch MacBook Air for Asian customers.
Kreg Snit, one IT veteran who has been my tutor for long time., promised me to provide one guest post for my blog. Finally it comes. Though it’s short, I think his viewpoints expressed in this article are valuable.
Apple released Mountain Lion preview version last week and lots of experts believed in the future OS X and iOS will merge into one operation system. I personally believe that, but at least in 2-3 years, we won’t see that.
Why? Many Mac users are using Mac for graphic design, digital publishing, advanced image editing, information technology management, and all above tasks require high performance CPU chip, while in 2-3 years, I don’t believe the ARM architecture processor can handle all those tasks.
Someone may argue with me Apple may change iOS as OS X ARM version, similar to what Microsoft does in Windows 8. Here is the question: Windows 8 ARM version and Windows 8 X86 version are infact two products. You can’t install ARM version in X86 computer. Microsoft use one brand name because Microsoft Windows is famous enough in traditional PC so use Windows 8 brand will help Microsoft to expand into tablet computer market more easily. But to Apple, iOS has become most notable OS brand in tablet and smart phone market, I can’t see any reason for Apple to called iOS as OS X ARM version.

Yesterday, Apple released developer preview version of next Mac OS X – Mountain Lion and the official version will be launched in the summer. While in Q4, Microsoft’s next generation of Windows8 will officially debut.
Both Mountain Lion and Windows 8 show the same trendency: provide streamless experience in different screen devices: computer, tablet and smart phone.
Though the preview version is only for Mac computer, Apple has remove “Mac” from the opersation name and calls it as “OS X”. We have enough confidence to believe in the future, it will merge with iOS into one unified operation system.
Mountain Lion is trying to bring iOS experience to Mac users while Windows 8 is trying to extend traditional PC experience to tablet computer and smart phone. Why. Because Apple has been successful in smart phone and tablet computer, while Microsoft still dominates traditional computer market. So both try to unify the screen experience base on its strongest market.
Which is correct? I personally support Apple.
